The 6.5 x 284 is one of the premium long range cartridges. In 1963 the .284 was introduced as a magnum type cartidge with a rebated rim. It was designed to fit in short actions. The round never really caught on. It became very popular with wildcatters. In 1993 Norma necked it down to the 6.5 x .284. The 6.5 x .284 has been the named cartridge for the United States F-Class Team. Unfortunately, the large case volume results in short barrel life. This caliber begs for a Snap Cap. Dry firing is very important to barrel life in the 6.5 x .284.
